HOW SIU CLASSES WORK

To enroll in one of my ScoreItUp classroom courses, or to see a list of live course options, please visit Classroom or email me at mark@scoreitup.com with any questions.  If you are curious about how ScoreItUp LSAT Prep classes are presented, here is a detailed overview:

Initial (Core) Lessons*

* The core concepts taught in these initial lessons are also available on video and in written format in SIU’s online database to further aid your understanding.

  •  Real LSATs (previously released official LSATs) are used for all class lessons, mock exams and homework.
  • We typically concentrate on two of the three graded sections (Analytical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension) each class lesson.
  • Although every graded LSAT section is thoroughly covered in the course, more overall time is spent on Logical Reasoning and Analytical Reasoning because (1) there is a lot to cover in those sections, and (2) Logical Reasoning comprises two of the LSAT’s four graded sections.
  • We begin working on real LSAT problems immediately. During the initial lessons, we work through LSAT problems and quizzes to help demonstrate:
    • the different types of questions that are asked on each section, and the precise meaning of each question type
    • step-by-step strategies on how to attack each section and each type of question effectively
    • the critical logic and legal reasoning skills that underlie a wide variety of different question types
    • symbolic logic, and how to use (and not use) symbolic logic effectively on Analytical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning questions
    • common tricks used by the testwriters and effective ways of dealing with each of them
    • common “wrong answer” types to help enable you to reject wrong answers accurately and efficiently.

Reinforcement (Workshop) Lessons

  • The remaining lessons are designed to further hone your LSAT skills, deepen your understanding of LSAT questions, refine your ability to answer LSAT questions accurately, and improve timing and efficiency.  We will do the following:
    • continue working through a large number of timed full-length sets of LSAT problems, all of which are carefully selected because of their instructional value
    • improve timing and efficiency
    • use real LSAT questions to reinforce the core topics discussed in earlier lessons
    • analyze and explain the problems that you have just done, highlight the key strategies necessary to solve them, and discuss the key learning tools to help answer similar future questions
    • use these LSAT questions to deepen your understanding of the key concepts discussed in earlier lessons, and to show the myriad ways the testwriters can apply those concepts
    • work through additional quizzes to further develop your core LSAT Prep skills, and to further hone your logic and legal reasoning ability
    • Reinforce, reinforce, and reinforce!
  • We will fully cover the key strategies and concepts that you will find taught in other courses, but much more. A key difference between SIU and other courses is the depth in which the material is taught.
  • Another key difference between SIU and other courses is the amount of work done to develop timing and efficiency:
    • In addition to all of the proctored mock exams, you will take timed sets in class (analyzed afterward) to further develop your “internal mental clock” in test-like conditions.
    • Learning how to answer LSAT questions accurately and efficiently is both challenging and critically important on the LSAT.

Additional Information

  • Virtually every week, you also will have the option of taking a mock exam. The mock exams use real LSATs with a live proctor in a classroom environment, designed to precisely simulate the LSAT.  Detailed explanations of the mock exams will be provided online to give you immediate feedback on the test.
  • Homework assignments using real LSATs are provided each week to further develop your skills. Detailed explanations are provided online to give you immediate feedback on your work.
