A student’s highest LSAT score and cumulative undergraduate GPA are, by far, the two most important factors determining which law schools they will be admitted into and the size of any potential merit-based scholarship. For example, the difference between a 155 and a 165 can dramatically change your admissions options and scholarship opportunities.

To evaluate one’s chances of getting into any particular law school, it is extremely helpful to research the law school’s most recent “median” LSAT scores and GPAs for its student body.

The Good News About Your Future LSAT Score

When it comes to your future LSAT score, there are TWO pieces of good news:

1. Regardless of your GPA, increasing your LSAT score can have a massive positive impact on your law school opportunities. While both your highest LSAT score and cumulative undergraduate GPA matter, a strong LSAT score can go a long way toward compensating for a subpar GPA.
2. The LSAT is learnable if you are willing to put in the time and effort to practice and if you receive sound instruction.

I’ve worked with countless students who have achieved double-digit score increases — and in some cases, improvements of 30–35 points on the LSAT’s 120–180 scale. For example, many students starting in the 140s have the potential to reach scores in the high 150s or 160s (and occasionally 170s) with effective preparation.
